Film/TV Graphic Designer of the Week: Radek Ladczuk

Over christmas I watched a horror film called 'The Babadook' it is a physiological horror film written by Jennifer Kent, it was produced in Australia, however has become very big in the UK and the USA yet many people haven't heard of it. Personally I hate horror films however this was so cleverly done that I watched through my eyes until about 40 minutes in then my boyfriend had to explain every minor detail to me!! I then IMDB'd the film and read the spoilers so I know what happened! However the cinematographer for the Film Radek Ladczuk did work on this film and I found the work amazing so I wanted to focus more on Radek this week.

He has mainly worked on short films however his big break was the babadook. He's probably a man you have never heard of as he is from a small part of Poland called Sczczecin. Please watch the trailer however if you are under the age of 16 please just ignore this blog this week as you may not sleep for a few nights, unless your tougher than me, please just focus on the book and the way the 'babadook' is produced and shown.

Interesting Find of the Week: Ana Marta again!

After last weeks interesting find of the week I have subscribed to youtube Ana Marta, I find her work so useful and helpful, another video I found was a Q&A video although it isn't all about Graphic Design the way the video is portrayed, layout and typed gives me many ideas for an animation video and to help me through the course with the various colour mixtures.

Skill of the Month - Presenting.

I know this may not sound like a normal 'skill of the month' but it took a lot of effort, so basically this month I had to do a presentation based on my previous project, 'City in Flux', this is due to the project coming to an end so we did a basic overview.

I ended up presenting for my group which consisted of:

Emma Nicholson- http://emmanicholsoncreativeportfolio.blogspot.co.uk
Alex Nicholson-
Luke Pearson- http://lukepearsongraphics.blogspot.co.uk

Their blogs our linked in so please check them out as they are such talented designers, and I was so fortunate to work in a group with them, Luke was our copywriter, this meant he checked everything that was sent written wise for a spell check and punctuality check, he would also make us sound a lot more clever! Alex was our Team Leader, therefore if we had any issues or problems we would speck to Alex, he also kept us on track and made deadlines for us to aim and make. Emma was our designer as you can see she is very talented and she was ADAMANT she wanted to design our presentation. I then made the notes and shortened it down for the actual presentation and performed in front of my peers and senior lecturer John Kelly.

It was a fun task and it was great learning to work in a team with new people, as I had seen them around university but not actually worked with them before they are a great bunch of designers and it was fun working alongside them!

Film/TV Graphic Designer of the Week: Multiple Artists!

This week I watched a documentary which features many different Graphic Designers such as Moby. It explains how artists all share the same problems, creative thinking and ideas. It is a video telling the younger generations not to be afraid of designing and to just put your ideas out there, because technology is creating more and more artists everyday.

Artist of the Week: Artist Driven

This weeks artist of the week isn't by a specific artist however it is a video with food, I think this is a very clever piece of animation as it can inspire people to eat better by creating your own 'Food Rap' and using the right ingredients to suit the lyrics!

How do we think about gender and sexual difference?

This image is the one I took away most from the lecture, I felt Allen Jones' work is outstanding and the way in which he does his photography. I felt this image discusses both gender and differences. The way in which the women has been placed shows how they are underminded and used as furniture. The women in the picture has been positioned with the seat cushion, tied to her. It makes her look like she is there just to be used she doesn't have her own job to do. She still has her hair and make-up done which in the 50's-60's many housewives still took pride in, by having their fashion, this image takes that away from the women by her showing skin and being dressed sexually.
